Miss AATX 1997 Chompoo Sirisawat

Chompoo Sirisawat has the honor of serving as the first Miss Asian American Texas 1997-1999. Born and raised in Dallas, Chompoo proudly represents the Thai-American community of North Texas demonstrated by her performance of a Grammy nominated Thai pop song for the talent competition. She accredits her fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Thai to her parents whom otherwise, would not allow her to participate in Thai dance had she not attended classes! Considering herself not quite the pageant type, Chompoo can relate to the so titled film and finds humor in being named Miss Congeniality, an award given to one individual voted on by fellow candidates.

Following her coronation, Chompoo continued her education at Southern Methodist University (SMU) and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Management Information Systems and a minor in Economics in May 1998. During her senior year at SMU, Chompoo was highly involved with community and campus activities, notably appointed by the Office of Intercultural Education & Minority Student Affairs as one of the first Peer Advisors. Chompoo also served as Chairperson of the first annual Asian American Leadership and Educational Conference (AALEC), and during her service as Vice Chair of Asian Council initiated first time participation in Homecoming activities including a 1st runner up representative for Queen in 1997. Not limited to these activities,

her numerous contributions in many facets of campus life was acknowledged by the University when Chompoo received the SMU “M Award,” the most highly coveted recognition given for four years of exemplary service in more than one area.

Upon graduation Chompoo followed her field of study and joined Accenture, the world’s leading management consulting and technology services company. Thus far, her career with Accenture has included project work on a global SAP implementation for Texas Instruments, eCommerce initiatives at Texas Utilities, and other Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Enterprise Architecture Integration (EAI) work. Business related travels have required spending time in Chicago, Tampa, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

In addition to her involvement on the Asian American Professionals of Dallas Board, Chompoo has also served on committees within the SMU Asiamerican Alumni Board, is past Co-Chair of Accenture’s Asian Networking Group, and has dedicated her time to the Miss Asian American Texas Pageant 1999 committee, including service as Co-Chairperson for the 2001 event. Chompoo strongly believes the pageant provides participants both candidates and committee volunteers with an avenue for personal development in the areas of cultural learning, community service, leadership, and the building of interpersonal and interviewing skills.

In her free time Chompoo is a kid at heart drawn to many activities such as sports, performing as well as visual arts, and is open to new experiences! In the past few years she has enjoyed playing softball, snowboarding, and lots of traveling around the U.S. and to the Bahamas, Thailand, France, Japan, and Taiwan.
