  • Mission

    The Miss Asian American Texas Pageant aims to foster unity, understanding and camaraderie among Asian Americans in Texas and increase broad public awareness of the diversity and strengths of the Asian American community by showcasing the leadership and breadth of individual talent in Asian American youth. The pageant also seeks to provide opportunities for candidates as well as volunteers to further develop leadership and interpersonal skills through individual and group activities including community relations, public speaking, and various philanthropic events.

    Winner

    The winner of the 2003 Miss Asian American Texas Pageant will carry the title for 2 years, during which time she will represent the Asian American community in her new leadership role and compete for the national title in 2004. The grand prize includes a $2000 scholarship, crown, trophy, sash, and other awards. Past prizes have included round-trip airfare, evening gowns, and a package from our cosmetics sponsor. Cash scholarships will also be awarded to Finalists.

    Individual recognition and awards will be given for:

    • Best In Division (Gown, Talent, Cultural, Evening, Interview)
    • Miss Photogenic
    • Miss Congeniality
    • Most Dedicated (one in each area)
    • Award of Academic Excellence
    • Outstanding Leadership Award
    • Asian American Activist Award

    All participants are recognized for their personality, talent, leadership, community involvement, and academic excellence. No previous pageant experience is necessary. Each candidate will be fully supported by our staff and volunteers.

    The Miss Asian American Texas Pageant is a unique experience, providing all those involved the opportunity to meet a number of people from all walks of life, and to gain friendships and memories they will cherish for a lifetime.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Candidates must be female residents of Texas and be of Asian ancestry (minimum 50%).
    • Candidates must have never been married, had a marriage annulled, nor have had a child.
    • Candidates must be of good character, with no history of Federal, State, or Local convictions for misdemeanor or felony.
    • Candidates must be between 18 to 25 years of age on the date of the pageant, Saturday, August 16, 2003 (younger contestants will be accepted if the winner of a major Asian Pageant)
    • Candidates must agree to allow the pageant to use without reservation any and all submitted or produced, photographs, videos, speeches, likeness, etc., for publicity and future pageant material as necessary and to be posted on the MissAATx.org website.
    • Candidates must not have been a previous Miss Asian American Texas winner.
    • Candidates must agree to be responsible for their own hair and make-up, releasing the Miss Asian American Texas Pageant organization and all its entities from all liability.
    • The winner must agree to sign a contract for the 2 years of reign, which outlines awards and prizes, as well as responsibilities; refusal to do so will forfeit the title and require the return of all prizes, scholarship ($2000), crown, sash, and trophy(s) to the pageant.
    • The winner must also agree that in the event they are disqualified or are unable to perform the duties outlined in the contract, their title will be forfeited and the Pageant reserves the right to keep, without exception all funds raised by the candidate or their sponsor(s). In addition, all prizes, scholarship ($2000), crown, sash, and trophy(s) must be returned.

    Application Requirements

    • Recommendation from a recognized Asian American organization
    • Miss AATX official application
      o $25 non-refundable application fee)
      o $150 pageant fee only if chosen to compete. Fee covers 2-night hotel and meals for mandatory practices.
    • Resume (community service, school, organizations, work)
    • Transcript
    • Essay about platform – 1 page
    • (Optional) Video or audio of talent – does not have to be of the talent performed at the pageant
    • Photos (will not be returned)
      o Head shot – on solid white background, will be used on poster if chosen as a candidate.
      o Full length photo – does not have to be professional


    Candidate Requirements

    As a candidate, you will need the following:

    • Cultural attire, representative of your country of origin
    • Prepared talent and attire for stage performance (3 min)
    • All white outfit for group performance
    • An evening gown for the evening wear competition
    • Black cocktail dress
    • An official T-shirt (provided by the Miss Asian American Texas Pageant 2003 organization)

    All candidates will participate in a number of activities including the following:
    Photoshoots, Media interviews, Sponsor visits, Dance rehearsals, Videography Socials & mixers, Interview preparation, Hair consultations, Make-up consultations, Personal wellness sessions, ect.

    Fundraising & Sponsorship

    Sponsorship and advertisement fees offset the cost of producing the program and help fund prizes awarded to the candidates. Each Miss Asian American Texas 2003 candidate will be required to solicit 2-3 pages of advertisements, sponsorships, or donations. Standard forms and guidelines will be provided. Due to our organization’s non-profit 501c(3) status, all contributions to the Miss Asian American Texas Pageant are tax-deductible.

    Judging Guidelines

    A diverse panel of judges will score the candidates in the following categories:
    20% Preliminary Interview
    20% Preliminary Talent
    20% Introduction in Cultural Attire
    20% Evening Gown and Poise
    20% On-Stage Interviews (top 10 finalists only)
    Top 5 will be scored as follows:
    70% Average of overall score
    10% On-stage Talent
    20% On-stage Interview/Platform

    Notification of Eligibility

    The Candidates Committee strives for balanced representation of Asian communities. All applicants will be notified by Saturday, May 31, 2003. Selected candidates must attend two mandatory rehearsals in Dallas and the Regional Reception in their area (see Pageant Timeline on next page).

    You will then be provided with additional information concerning the schedule of events, photo sessions, community service activities, fundraising/sponsorship, video and dance rehearsals, make-up sessions, media interviews, etc…everything you will need to experience the pageant to its fullest.
